In January of 1994, a small group of Sheboygan area mountain bike
enthusiasts held an open meeting at a local restaurant, to organize a
mountain bike club and promote biking in the Sheboygan area. Officers
were elected and the club name, "Fat Kats", was selected. "FAT" is
synonymous with mountain biking, and "KATS" being an acronym for Kettle
All Terrain Society.
This non-profit, tax-exempt organization was created by a devoted group of
bicycle riders and racers. The original intent of the club is to encourage
participation in the sport of mountain bicycling and broaden the public's
knowledge of our rapidly growing sport.
Mountain biking has sometime suffered from public misunderstanding and
we want to change this. We also want to resurrect the original intent of a
bicycle club - to invite the inexperienced rider into an atmosphere where
they can gain knowledge from more experienced riders and participate in
racing events.
Although our initial focus was on mountain biking, our charter does not
exclude any sport or wholesome activity. The intent of this social
organization is to promote good fellowship, and all aspects of health and
fitness.
The club is open to all with an interest in healthy competition. Children are
encouraged to participate, if their parents are members. We are looking for
members of all interests and skill levels.
There is no membership fee to be an associate member of the Fat Kats.
We ask that members volunteer some time toward trail building activities or
to the FatKats WigWam MTB Challenge.
